About SUNSTAR sticky icon

I have had dogs all my life (please see "Jan's Bio"); I grew up with "Sparkles", a sweet yellow Lab mix who was a wonderful part of our family. As a teenager, I worked at a show breeding and boarding kennel, where I learned to groom, train and show dogs. In 1976, I got a dog of my own, a wonderful rescue Weimaraner named "Buck" from the animal shelter; that began my love for purebred dogs.

I rapidly began learning more about the Weimaraner breed and met many other Weimaraners and their breeders, owners and handlers.  I love the Weimaraner happy attitude, athleticism and trainibility, plus they are such gorgeous dogs, they look like poetry in motion when they gait in the conformation ring, run an agility course, or hunt and point birds in the field.  Weimars have very funny personalities, and make me laugh on a daily basis!  They get along with everyone, and are especially wonderful with children, and enjoy playing with other dogs too.

Reina is a CHAMPION!!!

July 3, 2010- Reina is now a UKC Champion, and yesterday at the Washington UKC Classic, she took two Guardian Group FIRSTS at only 10 months of age!  She is now Champion Sunstar La Reina, CGC, HIC...what a good girl!

June 2010- Reina has her HIC now!

We took Reina to Ewe-Topia sheep herding facility last weekend and she did great! I was pleased with her stable temperament and work ethic, there is no question she is out of Old Southern White working farm Bulldogs! She received her Herding Instinct Certification, and we will take her again to do more sheep herding. Reina is now "Sunstar La Reina, CGC, HIC", yay Reina!!!

June 2010 issue of Dog Fancy magazine- check it out!!!

Dog Fancy magazine interviewed me for an article in the June issue on American Bulldogs and took some photos- there are several of my comments in there plus a photo of Winston, he is Chelsea and Carlo's dog and is my girl Devon's grand-puppy!  I am so excited!  Please see "Links" on the right side of this page and look under Dog Fancy Magazine...better yet, go buy the June issue so you can read the article in person!  :-)

May 10, 2010- Reina attained her CGC today!

My (not-so-little-anymore) girl Reina is now "Sunstar La Reina, Canine Good Citizen"!  She attained her CGC today as she is just turning nine months of age, she is doing so very well for being a silly, wiggly puppy!  Thanks to Valerie Ann Piltz with Pawsabilities for conducting the class and test, it was lots of fun!  Yay to my Baby Bama Bulldog!

A happy Dog Obedience student comments:

Ann Peavey wrote "I just wanted to thank you for being such a patient and knowledgeable
instructor with Bartlett (our great dane) during last month's obedience
class.  Bart has been doing so much better, and I really feel like we have a
far better bond now that he knows what we want him to do.  Being in your class
was truly inspirational - you have an amazing gift both with dogs, and their
owners!  I'm so grateful to have had your advice in building a strong
foundation for our pups.  Thank you again for what you do. I know my voice speaks for dozens of class
attendees!"

Thanks Ann for your wonderful comments!  I really enjoy teaching class (been doing it for over 30 years now...Yikes it doesn't seem that long!) and am so pleased when the students and their dogs develop that wonderful bond!

Reina's first dog shows!

042510- I just got home from Reina's first shows and she did fabulous- the judges were very understanding about her being such a silly, wiggly puppy!  She won her classes, Best of Breed, and went onto the Guardian Group judging, where she took a GROUP FIRST!  I am thrilled, what a good girl!

Sunstar La Reina

I am very excited that I have a new American Bulldog puppy!  Sunstar La Reina- "Reina"- is from Lem Miller's Joshua Kennels in the South.  Lem chose this puppy for me, his family has had Old Southern White Bulldogs for around a century, and this new little girl has a lot of that good old country Bulldog bloodline in her!

She is a wonderful new addition to SUNSTAR, I can't wait to get her into the show ring- I plan on doing lots of show and performance acitvities with her, in addition to Therapy Dog visits, of course.  I picked her up from her flight from Alabama on 100609 (she was born 081109) and she spent a good share of the day in the police department with us- she is already a DMPD family member!

Check out the pictures on the Bulldog Photo Gallery, she is ADORABLE!

Sunstar Jersey Girl is in her new home

Multiple Reserve Best-In-Show Champion Sunstar Jersey Girl, Herding Instinct Certified- she is the pick show puppy from the 2008 Devon X Jeep breeding- is in her new home now!   Suzi and Tom are wonderful folks and they are local, so they are bringing her to my obedience classes on Thursday evenings.  They are thrilled with her, and I am thrilled with them!  Check out their photo under the Bulldog Photo Gallery.  Kisses to Jersey Girl!

Another puppy owner comments...

Deb, who has "Asja" from the 2008 Devon X Jeep litter, just sent me an email: "I wanted to let you know how things are going. They are going terrific! I have to say how happy I am to have the privilege to own a Sunstar American Bulldog!  I am glad I got my baby girl from such a fantastic breeder!  She is such a sweet little girl...okay, she is not so little anymore. Thanks again for the opportunity to own one of these beautiful babies!"

Thanks Deb for the nice comments!  Jan~
